In lieu of the typical “Mother-Daughter Rain” series, we have a guest post by my daughter herself! If you’d like to catch up on past Mother-Daughter Rain essays, please check out #1 Twin Drums in the Dark, #2 Swing State, #3 Girlhood and Fluid Dynamics, #4 The Secret Poem To My Heart, #5 Shard by Luminous Shard, and #6 Microchimerism and Mothering.
Typically, at this point in the month, I share an essay about learning to mother after losing my mother, but right now, I am hard at work with a special project. More on that next week 👀.
With everything going on, I was going to skip this week’s post; however, my daughter had a special request to share some artwork, and I thought it would be the perfect chance to showcase some of her burning questions for the universe.
We picked our top 10 together, but there was close competition! I keep a running note with her pre-bedtime questions because they are often a great spark for poems.
Here are some of our favorites. You can read them below and/or listen to the audio at the top of the page 😊.
10 Questions for the Universe:
What is a girdle?
Is it possible that a star is reborn again and again?
Why are words words?
Why are day and night considered different things if Earth is moving just the same?
Who was the first person to grow hair?
Where did the number 11 come from?
Who gardened the first clover?
Why is pantyhose called pantyhose, and why do people wear it?
Do you think fairies like Kids Bop music?
Would Pandora have been my friend? I think I would like her inquisitive nature.
If you have some questions for the universe, please let us know in the comments below - we would both love to hear them!
